Welcome to my counseling practice, Present Wellness. I'm so glad you found me! I know what a big step seeking help can be, and I would love to come alongside you on whatever journey brought you here. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I received my Masters in Counseling from UAB and have worked with a variety of adults, children, and families in the Birmingham area. In addition to private practice, I currently work in a hospital-based substance abuse treatment facility. Outside of my professional life, I am a wife of 10 years and a mother to a spirited toddler and a little brown dog. I am passionate about my family, my community, and my yoga practice.
My foremost goal in therapy is creating a safe space for my clients to experience genuine empathy and acceptance that fosters the peace and growth they are seeking. Present Wellness focuses on bringing healing around the past and the future to live wholly and completely in the NOW. I offer this through traditional talk therapy, meditation and mindfulness practices, and creative expression. Please keep reading below for a little more information.
I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation for clients prior to scheduling an intake appointment to assist you in determining if I am the right fit for you. If you will be using insurance for payment, I will refer you to Insight Therapeutic Services to schedule an appointment with an intake coordinator prior to our initial session. Private pay clients will schedule an intake session directly with myself. From there, we will collaborate to create a therapeutic plan for how to move forward.
I currently accept most BCBS insurance plans. Cost of private pay sessions are below. Please see my "informed consent" paperwork for information on cancellation policies. I offer sliding scale fees on an as needed basis, so please inquire if these rates pose barriers to accessing services.
90 minute sessions- $100
60 minute sessions- $70
At some point in life, everyone will deal with experiences, thoughts, emotions, or behaviors that feel out of control and overwhelming. Having a skilled and empathetic therapist to offer support during these times can be invaluable to fostering resilience and meaning. I have experience working with people of all ages dealing with depression, anxiety, anger, substance abuse, relationship and family concerns, domestic violence, spiritual questions, life transitions, body image issues, LGBTQ concerns, chronic pain, and more.
I primarily work with adolescent and adult individuals. Please note, I do not counsel couples or minors under age 14.
Mindfulness is simply the practice of nonjudgmental awareness of oneself in the present moment. Meditation is a tool used to foster this awareness. I have experience in offering both individual and group guided meditation and mindfulness practices. Most of my therapy sessions incorporate a time of meditation to fit the needs of the individual. Meditation does not coincide with any particular religious belief. I will gladly meet you where you are, whatever spiritual framework you hold. If you are new to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation and perhaps think you can't do this, please consider adding a "yet" to that thought. Like all skills, practice is needed, yet perfection is not possible.
You do not need to believe in your abilities as an artist to engage in creative therapeutic techniques. I believe all people are born creative but the critical voices in our world often silence and shame those abilities within us. I would love to help you unlock the creative energies that still reside within you. I enjoy utilizing a variety of creative modalities with clients, such as visual art, movement, music, writing, and sand tray therapy.
